Building Maintenance

Repairs done properly, not patched over.

Reactive maintenance and planned upkeep for residential and commercial properties in Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds.

The approach

Understanding the cause, not just the symptom

Most maintenance problems have a root cause. A sticking door might be seasonal movement, a settling frame, or something more structural. Before I start any repair, I take time to understand what's actually going on. That way, the work I do addresses the real problem — not just what's visible on the surface.

I work on both domestic and commercial properties, and I'm comfortable being the second person called in, after someone else's work hasn't held up. I'll tell you honestly what I find and what I'd recommend.

Completed open-plan living room and kitchen-diner connection after internal wall removal, with new plasterboard finish and oak dining table visible through opening — Cambridge

Doors, frames & thresholds

Sticking, dropping, or draught-ridden doors — diagnosed and corrected properly. Frame repairs, threshold plates, and weathersealing included where needed.

Timber repairs

Rot repairs, damaged boards, skirting, architrave, and structural timbers. Where possible I'll repair rather than replace — usually better value and a better result.

Gutters & external maintenance

Gutter clearance and repair, fascia boards, minor external repairs. Preventative work that avoids more costly problems further down the line.

Planned maintenance schedules

For commercial clients or landlords, I'm happy to discuss regular visit schedules — addressing small issues before they become larger ones.

Fixture repairs & adjustments

Loose fittings, cabinet hardware, worktop repairs, shelving pulling away from walls — practical repairs done to a proper standard.

Security improvements

Additional locks, reinforced frames, hinge bolts, security hardware. Practical upgrades that make a genuine difference without unnecessary expense.

A brief description — by phone or WhatsApp — is usually enough to get started. I'll come and assess before any commitment is made.
